Cornwell Architects - Since 1948

Cornwell Architects was founded in 1948 by Gordon Cornwell and continues today to be a strong advocate for all the communities and clients with which we work.  Gordon established a firm dedicated to exceeding their client’s project goals through a process of careful listening, attention to the details and a commitment to produce thoughtful, creative design solutions for every project.

In 1968 Mike Callahan joined Gordon as a partner in the firm and an active member of the Traverse City area and the State of Michigan AIA. In 1978 Gordon’s son, Bob Cornwell, joined the office to help lead the firm and provide continuity as Cornwell Architects started the transition to the next generation.  Gordon retired in 1984 to allow Bob and Mike to run the office and continue the principle of being a true project partner with our client’s best interest as the focus.  Mike retired in 2006 but has remained an active AIA member, advocate for the community and an involved Kiwanian.

In 2006 Mark Humitz joined Cornwell Architects and was named a partner in 2013.  Mark became the president and sole partner of the firm in 2016 with Bob Cornwell continuing to provide business development and project management services until his retirement in 2017.  Bob remains a resource for community and client relationships and he continues to be an ambassador for Cornwell Architects.

Mark is committed to operating Cornwell Architects with the same focus established in 1948 by Gordon - paying attention to the details and with a dedication to providing exceptional, creative design services to all our clients.
