This restroom facility, located in Memorial Park next to Grand Traverse Bay in the Village of Elk Rapids, was designed so that its appearance would fit into the beach and park setting by using materials such as stone, exposed wood beams, and a blue roof, that would blend in to the site. It was positioned on the site within a grouping of existing trees so that it would not obstruct views to the bay. It is handicap accessible and a new sidewalk connects it to the existing sidewalk that runs throughout the park. Practically, the building consists of a men’s room, women’s room, a mechanical room, and a covered entry area with a drinking fountain and foot washes. The construction is a slab on grade foundation, concrete block bearing walls, and a timber framed roof with exposed wood beams and wood plank ceilings. The exterior features synthetic stone cladding, board and batten siding, standing seam metal roofing, and a cupola. The interior has a quarry tile floor, painted enamel concrete block walls, stainless steel partition doors and counter tops, vaulted wood ceilings, and wall hung toilets and urinals.
